Sponge Painted Poinsettias

(courtesy of A Little Pinch of Perfect)

These paintings would make wonderful homemade cards, just fold them in half, and write a message to a special someone to send them some holiday cheer. You could also sponge paint a large piece of paper and use the paintings as hand painted wrapping paper for a gift—oh so fancy!

What You’ll Need:

  • Sponges

  • Scissors

  • Red and green craft paint

  • Paper or plastic plate/tray for dipping (a plastic food container lid work great for this!)

  • Craft paper or card stock

  • Glitter is optional

To Make:

  1. Cut the sponge into an almond shape, like a petal.

  2. Lay out the red and green paints on a paper/plastic tray or plate.

  3. Have the children dip their sponges in the red and green paint, then press them gently onto their craft paper.

  4. If desired, you can lightly sketch a poinsettia shaped flower onto the paper so your child can match up to it while they sponge paint.

  5. Sprinkled glitter on the paintings before the paint dried to add some magic holiday sparkle.
