BOOK FOR BOOKS

Join us in support for a diverse and more equitable community

Book for Books, in partnership with First Book’s Stories for All Project™, sponsors diverse books for children in need and equips sitters with tools to share themes of diversity in Napp communities.

Napp has released a new in-app feature and online portal allowing its sitters, families, and local supporters to donate to Book for Books by opting to sponsor a book each time they schedule a gig in the app or to make a donation through Napp’s website. Through donations, First Book, a leader in the educational equity field, will ensure high-quality and diverse books and educational resources are distributed to educators and organizations serving kids in need across all Napp communities.

Additionally, to help foster empathy and provide windows into different cultures and experiences, Napp will purchase similar diverse children’s books to create its own library made available to sitters to share with children while babysitting. Each month, Napp will focus on a different topic, circumstance, or culture and send books representative of this theme to sitters. Napp sitters interact with children during particularly formative years, and through this initiative we hope to help reduce stereotypes and positively influence early attitudes about race and diversity.

How it works

In-app donations — Each gig created or requested in the Napp mobile app will allow both families and sitters to donate the cost of one book ($4.50) from their gig to directly support Book for Books.

Online donations — You can also donate directly to Book for Books through First Book’s online donation portal, giving you the opportunity to donate any amount your heart desires.

Distribution - First Book will directly distribute books to children in need through organizations local to Napp communities. In addition, Napp will separately purchase a library of their own to be distributed internally to Napp sitters, so we can work together, as a network, to share themes of diversity with our Napp families.

First Book’s Stories for All Project™

The Stories for All Project™ makes the best books reflecting identity-focused categories (e.g. African-American, Latina/o, and LGBTQ characters/cultures; children with special needs; immigrant and refugee experiences; and more) available and affordable to educators supporting kids in need.

Through their Stories for All Project™, First Book is connecting with educators and program leaders serving underrepresented populations to better understand and meet their needs. They are making the best books representing diverse characters, voices and life circumstances available and affordable to the children who need these resources the most.

There are young minds watching our every move, and it is important to us that we serve as a positive influence to the children in our network and beyond.
